A Case of Embolization Therapy for Major Homorrhage from pancreatic Pseudocytst

Abstract

|
|
Acute massive hemorrhage from pseudocyst is the most rapidly fatal complication of pancreatitis and its treatment has been the subject of considerable controversy for years. Some authors suggest that urgent surgical therapy is requried to control
bleeding and to treat the underlyng pseudocyst. However, surgical procedure, especially pancreaticoduodenectomy, which is somstimes the only lifesaving procedure in a limited number of patients. has high mortality and morbidity rate.
Transcatheter
embolization of the bleeding vessels using steel witre coils or detachable balloons have been tried to control major bleeding from different sources including some cases with pseudocyst bleeding.
We report one case with massive bleeding from pseudocyst wall which was controlled nonoperatively by transcatheter embolization.
